Gardening in a Community Garden is not your average gardening!
Limited to the space in an individual bed, often in wide open spaces with little protection
from the elements gardening in a Community Garden creates unique challenges, but
also great opportunities for learning and fun in a group.
To get the best out of your Community Garden bed means that you need to plot your
success!
Come to this informative evening with fellow members of your Community Garden or by
yourself to learn about:
• Local Climate Factors & Microclimates;
• Soil & Watering requirements, Issues & Techniques;
• Common Environmental Issues; Urban Critters & Control;
• Crops & Techniques for Community Gardens;
• Harvesting and more.
There will be lots of time for questions and discussion to add to the fun.
Note: This talk is not meant to cover basic gardening know how & skills. If you are a
first time gardener looking for to gain a good ‘grounding’ for Calgary gardening please
check out the in-depth workshops on the “Fundamentals of Gardening” and “Edible
Gardening” offered by the Calgary Horticultural Society this spring.
Sessions are planned for all quadrants of the city this spring based on demand, not to
mention availability of space and time. Watch for other locations and dates if you are
unable to attend this session.
